CEP Local 1-S Youth Advisory Committee Presents Kill Bills 5 & 6
A Post card Campaign to Raise Awareness of Bills 5 & 6, and to ensure union's voice is heard!

Kill Bills 5 & 6
The Future of Saskatchewan is at Risk!
" I believe Bill 5 seriously undermines my ability to secure better wages and working conditions at the bargaining table. The legislation damages the ability of unions to negotiate because employers heave the right to dictate which employees are "essential: and prevent them taking any job action. Do you really think employers would hire people they don't believe are essential?
The Section 6 amendment describes the rights of employers to communicate facts and opinions, but does not specify that these rights only apply during organizing drives and de certification drives. Does Section 6 therefore include the right of the employer to communicate its opinions to an employee or group of employees about any of the other work unions do? Do they have the right to influence members regarding :
-Filing Grievances?
-Bargaining positions or proposals of the union?
- Electing representatives to union positions?
- Voting on dues?
I am also concerned because the amendment could be interpreted to allow for employees communication with employees to be intimidating, threatening or coercive without being deemed an unfair labour proactive.
I don't believe you should proceed with this legislation.
I'm not feeling very hopeful about my future as a young worker in this province. If these bills are passed, it will affect the rest of my career. I don't see a reason to stay in Saskatchewan if my rights are not considered essential."

Youth in Action- A Discussion Forum on Engaging and Encouraging Youth Involvement in our Union!
On March 17, 2008 the CEP Local 1-S Youth Advisory Committee held it's first ever Discussion Forum - Youth in Action! Young workers from other unions were invited to participate in order to get a good cross section of the issues that we face. Our day started by identifying why young workers are different from "seasoned" workers, and detailing out the barriers that we face- and why we face them. We used Jeopardy and a "Vote with your Feet" game to demonstrate where we have succeed and where we have room to work. Goal setting and finding solutions rounded out the day- with an eye to working on actual projects to take back to our locals!
Many thanks to all who traveled to make it to this event, and to the locals who sponsored them. The day was a huge success!
